CCEI Code of Ethics for Certified Professionals
The Chartered Culture and Education Institute (CCEI) is a global leader in professional certification for cultural, heritage, creative, and educational fields. Through its certifications, CCEI aims to uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct, professional integrity, and inclusive leadership.
This Code of Ethics serves as a guiding framework for all individuals certified or seeking certification through CCEI. By adhering to this code, certified professionals affirm their commitment to advancing responsible leadership, ethical practice, and positive global impact.
I. Purpose and Scope
This Code of Ethics applies to all individuals who:
- Ensure accountability, transparency, and compliance in cultural, heritage, and educational institutions
- Hold an active certification from CCEI;
- Are candidates for any CCEI credential; or
- Represent themselves as affiliated with CCEI in a professional capacity.
- The code provides a framework for expected conduct in professional, institutional, and international contexts and serves as the foundation for disciplinary procedures in the event of violations.
II. Core Ethical Principles
1. Integrity and Accountability
Certified professionals shall:
- Conduct themselves with honesty, reliability, and fairness.
- Represent their competencies, experience, and certification status accurately.
- Accept responsibility for their actions and decisions, especially those impacting others, institutions, or public trust.
- Avoid conflicts of interest and disclose affiliations where impartiality may be compromised.
2. Respect for Cultural Diversity and Human Dignity
Certified professionals shall:
- Promote respect for all cultural traditions, expressions, and communities.
- Uphold human rights and cultural rights in accordance with global standards (e.g., UNESCO conventions).
- Refrain from participating in practices that exploit, devalue, or misrepresent cultural groups.
- Embrace intercultural dialogue and ethical engagement with historically underrepresented communities.
3. Commitment to Excellence and Competence
Certified professionals shall:
- Strive for excellence in their work and uphold the integrity of their profession.
- Commit to continuous learning, skill development, and ethical leadership.
- Apply evidence-based practices that reflect current research, cultural sensitivity, and professional standards.
- Encourage the sharing of knowledge, mentorship, and community-based growth.
4. Confidentiality and Trust
Certified professionals shall:
- Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information obtained in the course of professional activities.
- Respect intellectual property, institutional data, and the privacy of individuals and partners.
- Use discretion when handling culturally or politically sensitive information.
5. Stewardship and Sustainability
Certified professionals shall:
- Promote responsible management of cultural and natural heritage.
- Incorporate sustainable practices into professional activities, project design, and leadership strategies.
- Uphold environmental and cultural responsibility in the management of resources, people, and places.
6. Appropriate Use of Certification and Affiliation
Certified professionals shall:
- Use the CCEI certification title (e.g., Certified Heritage Professional – CHP) only while the certification is valid and in good standing.
- Avoid implying endorsement by CCEI in projects, research, or policy unless explicitly authorized.
- Comply with CCEI branding and communication policies regarding logos, titles, and public representation.
7. Professional Conduct and Collegiality
Certified professionals shall:
- Foster respectful, constructive, and inclusive environments.
- Avoid harassment, misconduct, or unprofessional behavior in all settings.
- Promote interdisciplinary collaboration and the respectful exchange of diverse perspectives.
8. Reporting and Ethical Review
Certified professionals shall:
- Report unethical behavior, violations of this Code, or misuse of certification credentials to CCEI in good faith.
- Cooperate fully with any ethical review process initiated by the CCEI Ethics Committee.
- Accept the outcomes of CCEI's review processes, including possible revocation of certification in serious cases.
III. Violations and Disciplinary Procedures
Violations of this Code may result in:
- Formal warnings
- Temporary suspension of certification
- Revocation of certification status
- Public disclosure in accordance with CCEI governance policies
All reports and disciplinary actions will be handled with discretion, due process, and fairness. The CCEI Ethics Committee oversees the investigation and resolution of all ethical matters.
IV. Acknowledgment and Agreement
All certification applicants and current certified professionals are required to read and accept this Code of Ethics as part of the certification process.
By accepting CCEI certification, individuals affirm that they:
- Understand the ethical obligations described herein;
- Will uphold these principles throughout the duration of their certification;
- Will support the integrity and mission of CCEI in all professional endeavors.
